一、教学目标
1. Students can learn some words about jobs like coach, secretary, scientist and so on.
2. Students can get the main idea of the passage.
3. Students can learn how to find out the detailed information from the text.
4. Students can improve their reading and writing abilities by finishing some tasks.
5. Students can use reading strategies such as skimming, scanning and intensive reading and know how to describe what people like and which jobs they want.
6. Students can be more interested in English reading.
7. Students can form a correct outlook of career and treat different jobs equally.
二、教学重难点
1. Students can use some reading strategies like skimming, scanning and intensive reading to get the main idea of the text and find out some detailed information.
2. Students can improve their reading and writing abilities.
3. Students can learn to treat different jobs equally with a correct outlook of career.
三、教学过程
Step 1. Lead-in
Sing a song about job named Be What You Wanna Be, and ask students one question “What kind of job do you know?”. Then the teacher chooses two or three students to share with others.
【设计意图】借助歌曲和头脑风暴导入话题可以提高学生的课堂参与感,并激发学生的学习兴趣。
Step 2. Pre-reading
1. Show students three pictures about Hu Bin, Sarah and Robin on the book one by one.
2. Lead students to guess which job they want to do according to the pictures.
3. Ask students some questions and lead them to answer and then they can make a prediction about the text.
【设计意图】通过观察图片上人物的动作猜测他们各自从事的工作,训练学生的预测能力。
Step 3. While-reading
1. Skimming:
Ask students to read the text quickly and answer the question “What is the text mainly talking about?”.
2. Scanning:
Read the text again and finish two tasks.
Task 1: Ask and Answer
Answer these three questions:
①What does Hu Bin like?
②Where does Sarah want to work?
③Who wants to be a scientist?
After students answer these questions, the teacher needs to explain these three jobs, coach, secretary and scientist by simple words and movements.
Task 2: True or False
Quickly speak out the choice:
①Hu Bin is good at football, ping-pong and basketball.(T)
②Sarah wants to work in an office.(T)
③Robin wants to be a scientist like his grandfather.(F)
3. Intensive reading:
Read the text for a third time and make a table about their names and the answers to these three questions: What does he/she like? What does he/she want to be? Where is he/she going to work?
【设计意图】通过skimming快速了解和把握文章主旨大意,训练学生快速阅读,获取文本大意的能力。通过scanning回答问题和判断对错的活动,训练学生快速阅读文本并查找关键信息的能力。通过intensive reading制作表格将文章内容进行完整清晰地展示,获取细节信息的同时整体感知文本内容。
Step 4. Post-reading
Two students in a group and talk about some information about their partner including what his/her name is, what he/she likes, what he/she wants to be and where he/she is going to work. Then the teacher asks students to write them down and chooses some students to share with others.
【设计意图】仿照文本讨论同伴的相关信息并写下来,能够加深学生对文本的理解并训练初步写作的能力,提升学生的综合语言运用能力。
Step 5. Summary
Students summarize what they have learned in this class, and the teacher makes some supplements timely, and tells them to respect different jobs to achieve the cultural awareness objective.
【设计意图】学生总结课堂所学,教师适时补充,帮助学生巩固知识并升华文化意识目标。
Step 6. Homework
Make a survey of seven schoolmates about what they like and what they want to be and where they are going to work. And choose some students to report the result next class.
【设计意图】通过开放性的作业,达到了巩固和练习新知识的效果。
