Good morning/afternoon, my dear judges. I’m No. 7. Well, it is my great honor to talk about my teaching ideas. My presentation consists of the following aspects.
Part 1 Analysis of teaching material.
The topic is Module3 Unit2 We have not found life on any other planets yet. It is mainly about journey to space.
There are three teaching objectives.
Knowledge objectives:
(1) Students can master environment, universe, none, communicate with, solar system and so on.
(2) Students can master the use of present perfect tense.
Ability objectives:
(1) Students can use the key words and phrases to make new sentences.
(2) Students can use different reading skills to get information in the passage.
Emotional objectives:
(1) Students will be eager to discover our universe and study harder.
(2) Students will be interested in learning English.
The key points and difficult points are to improve ss’ reading skills and lead them to acquire the present perfect tense.
Part 2 Analysis of students.
Students in grade 8 are interested in the topic about spaceship, meanwhile they are lack of some relevant words and their reading skills needs practicing. Thus the teacher should try to make the class with interests and provide them more chances to learn by themselves.
As for my teaching methods and study methods, I will mainly use Task-based Teaching Method and Communicative Approach to arouse their motivation to learn by themselves, pair work and group work.
Now, let’s come to the most important part-teaching procedures.
Step 1 Lead-in.
After greetings, they are asked to watch a video about Chinese spaceships. Then I will ask them the following questions:
Do you know these spaceships?
Why do we make them?
The purpose of doing this is to arouse students’ interest and make an easy and relaxing atmosphere to study.
Step 2 Pre-reading
I will show them some pictures of planets and other spaceships. Combining with the new words in the passages they have reviewed, ss will predict what is mainly talked about in the passage. By this, they can train their predicting ability and lay a good foundation for the next study.
Step 3 While-reading
Global reading
First, students have to skim the passage to choose the best title for it. Some advice may useful for students: just pay attention to the first and last graph or the first and last sentence of each paragraph. And then they are required to scan the passage and answer the questions on ppt and finish true or false of exercise 3. Through this, students can get a general understanding of the passage, and their reading skills of skimming and scanning will be practiced as well.
Detailed reading
Students will be asked to read the passage carefully again to complete exercise 4. And the teacher will emphasize the sentences of present perfect tense。During this part, the new words and sentence structures will be taught naturally according to the context. What is more, I will ask ss to make sentences with the new words and sentence patterns to ensure they have acquired them. In these activities, students will comprehend the passage in detail and their reading ability of getting the meaning and usage of the new words and sentences inferring to the context will be improved.
Step 4 Post-reading
Students have to retell the passage according to this mind -map on the blackboard and I will show them a picture from a science story for children to discuss it in groups, after that, they do a report to the whole class.
The purpose is to arouse their interest and involve the whole class. Also, their critical thinking and autonomous learning ability can be developed.
Step 5 Summary and homework
In the end, I will invite some students to make a summary. If necessary, I will give them some complements. And tell them study harder and try to be a scientist to discover our universe.
For homework, students have to write a short passage about people live in another planet.
Finally, my blackboard design. As you can see, it is very clear and logical. Students can easily master what they have learned today.
